Work From Home
I feel that there is an increasing number of people that either study or work from home. However, I also know a lot of people that fail at this, because their home is not the right environment to work in. Today, I would like to discuss some features that have helped and still help me to make my home my perfect place for study and work.
The first thing I make sure to do, is that I have a designated area where I work. And I try really hard to not work elsewhere. Why? It’s a mental thing, because if I always work on the couch for example, I cannot fully relax on that couch/in that area anymore, because sub-consciously I associate it with work (ergo, stress). I created a corner in our living room, put a big closet in front of it so you can’t really see it from the rest of the room and this is MY corner. This is where I study, work, and am creative. I try to keep the rest of the house a ‘work-free-zone’, because of the reason mentioned above. You may feel like this doesn’t affect you, but I can assure you, it probably does. Therefore I can really advice you to also (try to) make a designated area where you work and stick to that.
Secondly, I make an effort to keep my work area tidy. I am still not the best at this to be very honest, but it makes the biggest difference when I make this effort. Because if my corner is a mess, I will not be motivated whatsoever to work and I also find I am a lot less productive if my surroundings are a mess. Moreover, if my surroundings are a mess, my head is a mess, which equals stress. So, it really pays off to clean up every time after you’ve used something!
Lastly, and probably my biggest tip is to make your area appealing to you. If you hate your ‘corner’, you will not feel motivated to work in it and therefore you probably won’t feel motivated to work at all anymore. My boyfriend and I can have quite different tastes in decoration and we find a balance in our tastes throughout the apartment. However, my corner is mine, haha, so he has had no say in the decoration. This gave me the opportunity to make it absolutely perfect to my wishes (for as far as my budget allowed it though), which really helps. Every time I go to my desk, I feel great and calm, because it is the one place in the house that is fully ME.
These are my tips for today, I hope they’ve helped someone out!
